US Retailers Targeted With Bomb Threats, Seeking Bitcoin And Gift Cards -WSJ

Updated: Jul 12, 2023

Hey there, my friend!

Welcome to the Weekend!

I just came across some news that I thought you should know about. So, it turns out there's been a series of bomb threats happening in the United States recently, and law enforcement officials and retailers are all over it. Crazy, right? I read about it in the Wall Street Journal.

Apparently, big retail companies like Kroger, Walmart, and Amazon's Whole Foods Market have been targeted by these threats. The callers have been demanding things like gift cards, bitcoin, or straight-up money. And get this, they've been threatening to set off bombs if their demands aren't met. It's really scary stuff.

These threats have been popping up in different parts of the country, from New Mexico all the way to Wisconsin. I read about this incident at a Kroger-owned store in New Mexico where an employee received a call from a suspect. The caller asked her to wire money and warned that a bomb would explode if she contacted the police. Can you imagine being in her shoes?

There was another incident in a suburb near Chicago where a Whole Foods Market employee was told over the phone that a pipe bomb had been planted in the store. The caller demanded $5,000 in bitcoin. It's just unbelievable what these people are doing.

The FBI is on the case, though. They're working closely with local and state law enforcement officials to get to the bottom of these threats. They're urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

What's really puzzling is that it's unclear whether these threats are part of some organized effort. The authorities are still trying to figure out the motives and connections behind all of this.

It's a scary world out there sometimes, my friend. Let's hope they catch these culprits soon and put an end to these threats. Stay safe and keep an eye out for anything unusual around you.
